Sailor's Song

When it rains it pours and opens doors
that flood the floors we thought would always
keep us safe and dry
And in the midst of sailing ships
we sink our lips into the ones we love
That have to say goodbye

And as I float along this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that won’t seem to let me go

Cause when I look to the sky
something tells me you’re here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here

And every word I didn’t say
that caught up in some busy day
And every dance on the kitchen floor
we didn’t have before
Every sunset that we’ll miss
I’ll wrap them all up in a kiss
Pick you up in all of this when I sail away

While I float upon this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that I hope will never leave

Cause when I look to the sky
something tells me you’re here with me
And you make everything alright
When I feel like I’m lost
something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way

Whether I'm up or down or in or out
or just plain overhead
Instead it just feels like it is impossible to fly
But with you I can spread my wings
to see me over everything
that life may send me when I am hoping it won’t pass me by

When I feel like there is no one
that will ever know me
there you are to show me

When I look to the sky
something tells me you’re here with me
You make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here with me
When I look to the sky
something tells me you’re here with me
You make everything alright
And when I feel like I’m lost
something tells me you’re here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here.

Show Me Now! (A little bit of rambling)

There is nothing like friends who show that they are glad to see you. I'm not talking about when you are walking by, they smile and ask "How's it going?" I don't mind that. I know they are sincere, and it does make me feel good to be asked how I am. I'm usually fine, sometimes I say great, sometimes I say tired, but if they're passing, a "fine" or "good" will do.

It reminded me of that song from My Fair Lady, where Eliza is singing to Freddy, and she doesn't want him to talk but show her that he loves her. And yet, she is mad at Professor Higgins, so she doesn't let him kiss or hug her while she is singing angrily. It's a hilarious scene, especially since Freddy is so love-struck he keeps crashing into things and tripping.

Like I said, I don't think the kind of greeting where you just ask a basic question in passing is at all insincere. However, it doesn't compare to Charlene's greeting. She wrapped one arm around my shoulders and pressed her cheek to mine with a big smile saying "Hi!". Thanks, Charlene, you made my day.

When I first came to college, I was overwhelmed in a way, by how much hugging went on. The guys would hug the guys, and the girls were all very affectionate from the beginning. I thought people would be more stand-off-ish because many of them were strangers two weeks before. But thinking about it now, I realize most of them are far away from home, and they didn't know hardly anyone in the area either. So once they find someone who is nice and takes time to talk to them, they depend on getting a smile or a hello or a hug, some sort of greeting that assures them they are noticed and are appreciated. Since I live at home, and have never been away from my family, I don't need as much affection as some of the other girls. But I still love it when they make me feel special, and include me in the hugs. I try to remember to give them hugs, too, because they might need it more than I.

I repeat, there is nothing like a sister in Christ showing you she loves you for being a friend, and in doing so shows me she's a friend.

What is with Mel Gibson?

Why do people like Braveheart? I really don't understand.

Okay, so I wasn't able to finish watching it before someone returned the movie, but I got slightly more than half-way (I think). And some parts were interesting, but most of the first half was just William getting revenge for his wife's death. At least it sure looked like revenge, accompanied by graphic scenes showing exactly how the Englishmen died (and the Englishmen were ALL selfish, arrogant, incapable fighting pigs, according to the movie).

I have nothing wrong with revenge, if it's godly revenge. But is it? It confused me because he appeared to be having a personally 'get-even' thing, and yet later he claims it's all to free Scotland. And it certainly could have been all in Scotland and his wife's best interest to revolt against England. I certainly believe the real William Wallace did fight for Scotland's freedom. But the movie confused motives, at least I was confused by it.

There are so many other things that did not impress me; such as vulgarity displayed by virtually every main character. One main thing that did not impress me was Mel Gibson himself. I'm sorry, I just can't get over big actors in movies, it is EXTREMELY hard to suspend belief and pretend his is William Wallace when one has seen him in Signs, Young At Heart and many other movies. It is just like my beef with having Brad Pitt play Achilles in Troy. It just didn't work. They are just too popular to play such big roles. They are too American to act like Scots and Greeks.

I suppose one day I'll watch the whole movie, but until then, Braveheart is hardly in my top 50 favorite movies.

Audition Song

I sang this song for my audition for The Sound of Music, and they still wanted me in the play. Go figure. It is a fun song to sing, though.

Fish got to swim and birds got to fly
I got to love one man till I die
Can't help loving dat man of mine

Tell me he's lazy, tell me he's slow
Tell me I'm crazy, maybe I know
Can't help loving dat man of mine

When he goes away
Dat's a rainy day
And when he comes back
Dat day is fine
De sun will shine

He can come home as late as can be
Home widdout him ain't no home to me
Can't help loving dat man of mine

This song is from the musical Show Boat, which I haven't seen yet, but Faith has a CD with Charlotte Church singing this song. It's got a little jazzy/gentle swing sound to it and probably would sound better coming from a black girl, not some paleface like me.
